This blog is a lifestream. It's an aggregation of all my life as I move around in the world. Mostly it is mobile pictures taken from my mobile phone, but occasionally you'll see videos and other things I find around the net. If you want to see *everything* I make/write/create, check out my FriendFeed.com/evantravers. If you tire of this random excursion into my shoes my serious blog can be found here.

Serene:

I felt very peaceful in the bamboo… I wish I had a video camera and could have captured them swaying against one another… it was pretty neat.View On Black

I hope you all had a wonderful fourth of July! As usual I have a good number of neat fireworks shots… I’ll share them after this botanical gardens set is done.View On Black

Japanese Reflections:

This is a 5 or 6 image panorama, I’m standing behind the grate where the lake dumps out to get this angle.View On Black

Blowing in the Wind:

When I lined up this shot for the first time, I was adjusting the exposure and the wind kicked up the leaves and threw them across the path. I wasn’t fast enough on the draw, so I had Bo throw the leaves across the path for me. I think he actually kicked the litter in this shot.View On Black

Thicket:

I had a great time shooting with my good friend Bo at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens yesterday afternoon… I got a few really cool shots which I will uploading over the next few days.
For this shot, I was trying to get a feel for the depth and texture of walking in among bamboo. There is light filtering down… motion from the wind… and always the verticality of the largest of the grass family. In retrospect, trying to compose a few of the shoots up front would have made a stronger image, but I still like this one.

Mirrors and Smoke:

Smoke is such a strange substance. Organic, mineral, symbolism of things dead and alive, a sign of destruction and an icon of worship. No wonder it’s fascinated artists for years.

Any Questions?:

This one happened by pure chance, but I had to keep it of course. Smoke is really neat, I’d like to try it again. I understand the best method is to use incense smoke, because it produces a very steady stream for a good while.

Drippy Candle:

Tomorrow… you’ll see what I did with this candle + fire! But for today, enjoy a weird way of getting a very high contrast B&W.
Strobist Info:
One SB-900 to camera right with a blue “special effects gel. Post pro’d to blue filter monochrome.View On Black
